Koumokuten, guardian of the West, Nara
Inside the great hall of the Todaiji temple at Japan's ancient capital city of Nara are a number of guardian dieties that protect the environs.
This one is Koumokuten ["the wide-eyed guardian"] who is positioned at the West. His piercing eyes see through evil and he carries a writing brush and scroll.
